The first-ever Bengali language course for Turkish people is set to launch on March 27, 2023, via Zoom, according to a joint press release from Take Me Home and the Bangladesh Study and Research Center at Istanbul Gedik University. The course will be free and offered online.
The inaugural event will feature Ms. Farida Parveen, a renowned folk singer and cultural icon of Bangladesh, as the Guest of Honor. Ms. Hulya Gedik, the President of the Board of Trustees at Istanbul Gedik University, will attend the event as a special guest. The event will be moderated by Bangladeshi journalist Ms. Sadea Naowar Khan, and notable representatives from Turkish and Bangladeshi civil society will give speeches.
According to Ms. Kamrun Nahar, the Director of Bangladesh Study and Research Center, " We are excited to offer the first-ever Bengali language course for Turkish people, in collaboration with Take Me Home. Through language learning, we hope to bridge the gap between our cultures and promote greater understanding and appreciation. On completion of the course, students will receive certificates from Istanbul Gedik University, which will open new doors for the Turkish people to explore the culture and history of Bangladesh.”
Mr. Shakil Reja Efti, director of Take Me Home, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "As the Take Me Home family, we have been working tirelessly to promote the beauty of diversity and multilingualism, and we are thrilled to be partnering with the Bangladesh Study and Research Center, Istanbul Gedik University to offer this Bengali language course. Our aim is to archive the languages, traditions, cultures, and related identities that are at risk of disappearing, and we believe that language learning is a powerful tool for preserving and promoting cultural heritage. We have already received a great response to this course, and we invite our Turkish friends to join us on this exciting journey of discovery and exploration of the Bengali language and culture.”
